Historic participation of Aruba in the XII South American Games Asunción 2022

Juan Ramón Alfeito, Head of Mission of Aruba, gave a few words at the closing of the XII South American Games Asunción 2022, highlighting the organization that provided support at all times, the helpful volunteers, the warmth that the Paraguayan public gave and highlighted the excellent participation of the athletes from their country during the 15 days of competition.

“Some Games that were shocking for us as a country. It was something shocking, something impressive. The Chefs de Mission, also the athletes, shared with their companions; not to mention the volunteers and also the Games management who gave us the support, the support and were always present to help. Also the Paraguayans, to them, who worked so hard for these Games, who also celebrated our medals with us”, were Alfeito's impressions of ASU2022.

This South American multi-sport event that was not only historic for Paraguay but also for Aruba since its athletes obtained 6 medals, 3 gold and 3 silver in the ASU2022 Medal Table, a record for this delegation in the South American Games.

“The experience we got is a great experience. Why do I say it? These Games were historic, since we are going with three gold medals and three silver medals for a delegation of 12 athletes where they gave everything for everything to represent us with dignity and sure to make a difference in the Asunción 2022 Games”, added the representative of the Aruba Olympic Committee.



Medalist

Aruba's first gold medal came soon, on October 2, when the National Aquatic Center (CAN) opened its doors to the public and athletes from international delegations. Mikel Schreuders, who had marked his presence in Tokyo, took gold in the 100-meter freestyle, but the harvest of medals did not end there; Subsequently, Mikel reached the silver medal on 2 occasions, one in the 50-meter freestyle and the other in the 50-meter breaststroke.

On the other hand, Kamilah Dammers and Abigail Samantha were the explosive duo that won the gold in Women's Doubles in the discipline of Bowling; While, alone, Dammers demonstrated his great skill in bowling by repeating the gold medal in the Women's Singles category.

In addition to Bowling and Swimming, another sport that brought joy to Aruba was Sailing. The sailboat Malik Hoveling reached the podium in the Table a Vela - IQFOIL 95 modality of the men's branch, obtaining the third silver medal.
