October 17, 2022

United South America enthusiastically celebrates the closing of a chapter in continental sports history. That magical night of October 1, where the history book was opened at the opening ceremony of the XII South American Games Asunción 2022, kicked off what would be 15 days of competition full of joy, teachings, friendship and passion.

All this came to an end in the Closing Ceremony of this event that brought together 15 countries and more than 7,000 athletes and officials. This event showed artistic flashes of the highest quality, in a more intimate and shorter approach than the opening ceremony, maintaining the modern and avant-garde line of the beginning.

It culminated with shows by DJs and the Kchiporros group in a great party to entertain all those who were part of this, which began as Everyone's Dream. The Fan Fest of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee Park received the delegations of athletes, judges, government representatives of the 15 participating countries and the volunteers, who gathered to live an exciting night full of joy.

The ceremony was formed in different subtly united blocks, going from the formal to the artistic in a dynamic and very well thought-out way. The official character of the Games, Tiríka, qualified as the best mascot of all time, was also an important part of the celebration. Initially, the Countdown was performed, then the act called "Awakening Peasant" was given by interpreters of the Municipal Modern Classical Ballet. The choreography was in charge of the outstanding Director of the Classical and Modern Ballet of the city of Asunción Miguel Bonin. Then the National Anthem of Paraguay was sung by all those present, causing a moment of joy and enthusiasm in the environment, to give rise to the reception of the parade of athletes from the 15 nations that were part of this great dream.

In the artistic block, Purahéi Soul made the entire audience vibrate with fury, singing the emblematic songs in Guaraní, Spanish, and English, with Latin American folkloric sounds and roots fused with rhythms such as Jazz, Blues and Soul that characterize them. . Purahéi Soul's music seeks a sound that defends the concept of fusion with identity. Paying tribute to Paraguayan cultural diversity, they have been developing a collaborative and exchange model with a great work team.

To close this magical night, an emotional video was shown in tribute to the more than 4,000 volunteers who accompanied, for 15 days with enthusiasm, kindness, commitment and solidarity, this great South American dream. The arrival of the flag of the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) also meant a dream moment for everyone, where the speech of the Minister of the National Secretary of Sports Mr. Diego Galeano Harrison and the words of the President of the ODESUR Mr. Camilo Pérez López Moreira were the closure of the night. “It is exciting to know that the stadiums were filled and I am grateful that this encouragement reached every athlete on the continent; and my heart thanks these guys for their encouragement, our Guarani delegation who have dedicated their lives to sports, a delegation of almost 600 Paraguayan athletes who have proudly carried the Paraguayan flag around the world and who, like few times, had the retribution of receive the applause of his public at home”, said the Minister of Sports.

The South American Fire went out in this celebration of the sports festival in the heart of South America, which also marks a milestone that brought together more than 350,000 people in the different sports venues, seduced some 70,000 foreign tourists who arrived on Guarani soil, demonstrating to the world that sport is synonymous with joy and celebration, even more so considering the paralysis that the world had suffered just 2 years ago due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
