Opening of the XII South American Games Asuncion 2022: An unforgettable evening

The pages of Guarani sports history were opened tonight to write, in golden letters, the exciting and unique moment that our country is experiencing by receiving the ODESUR South American Games for the first time. Expectations for this night were at the height of the sporting competitions that, as well as the Opening Ceremony, will be unforgettable.

The emblematic Defensores del Chaco Stadium located in the Sajonia neighborhood of the city of Asuncion, received in its stands the delegations, athletes, judges and government representatives of the 15 participating countries as well as volunteers and sports and government authorities, who gathered to live an exciting night full of color and joy during the Opening Ceremony of the Asuncion 2022 Games.

An unprecedented artistic show was displayed on a stage that was dressed up for the occasion and showed, in different ways, the richness of Paraguay. What was experienced tonight, beyond being the opening ceremony of the XII South American Games Asuncion 2022, was also to share with all the spectators, the Paraguayan culture through a first class show.

The ceremony consisted of four subtly united blocks going from the protocol to the artistic and from the artistic to the protocol in a dynamic and very well thought out way.

In the artistic block, Latidos del Paraguay (Paraguayan Beats), a tour through different paintings, in which more than 500 Paraguayan artists made allusion to its history, fauna and flora, its history, fauna and flora, its history, fauna and flora, its history, its culture and its culture.

to its history, fauna and flora, its customs, festivities, arts and natural wealth, being these the heartbeats of the country and at the same time Paraguay the heartbeat of the country.

The athletes of the sports delegations of the 15 participating countries paraded on the field of the Defensores del Chaco, a stage that has witnessed numerous historic moments of sport that made the country vibrate, and on this occasion, hosted a night that will remain forever in the memory of Paraguayans.

The show called "Latidos del Paraguay" (Paraguay's Beats), put on stage more than 500 Paraguayan artists who showed a journey through Paraguayan history, its flora, fauna, customs, festivities, arts and natural wealth, this of the staging that showed the heartbeat of a people, a country and the heart of the American continent.

The countdown and the official song of the Asunción 2022 Games, Alto Vuelo, sung by the creators of this new continental sports anthem, marked the beginning of a memorable night. Kchiporros, Tierra Adentro, Nestor Ló y los Caminantes, MilkShake, Kaese and Caja Blanda were in charge of making the audience vibrate.

Likewise, after the presentation of the authorities that accompanied the evening, Susana Saldívar and José Mongelós, in a sublime presentation, sang the Paraguayan National Anthem and then gave way to the parade of the 15 delegations that will participate in the biggest continental sporting event.

With the delegations in the stands of the Defensores, art took over the stage to present the Paraguayan Beats to the continent and the world. The moment brought with it a brief review of Paraguay from pre-Hispanic times to the era of democracy showing the highlights of its history, ending with the song Patria Querida, whose verses exalt the courage and patriotism of Paraguayans.

The H2O Orchestra and its renowned Water Harp, paid tribute to the existing aquifers in our country and its importance as one of the most precious natural resources in the world.

The emotion of those present was exalted with the entrance to the stage of the Paraguayan model, Nadia Ferreira, Universal Vice-Reina 2021, wearing the design of the Mainumby (Picaflor) used in the Miss Universe 2021 pageant. Thus, Paraguayan fauna and flora was represented by the art of national contemporary fashion designers in a haute couture fashion show.

Declared a Symbolic Instrument of National Musical Culture, the Paraguayan Harp is the cultural emblem that represents not only Paraguay as a nation and its music, but also the ideals that contribute to a collective notion of Paraguayanness. Fifty harps conducted by the director of the orchestra Sonidos de la Tierra, Arpa Róga, directed by Luis Szarán, sweetened the ears of the visitors and made the Paraguayan spectators fall in love even more.

The protocol also had its space with the words of the Minister of Sports, Diego Galeano Harrison; and the President of the South American Sports Organization, Camilo Perez. Likewise, Mario Abdo Benítez, President of the Republic of Paraguay, declared the XII South American Games as inaugurated.

The most exciting moment of the night was the arrival of the South American Fire at the Defensores del Chaco. The same fire that traveled through the 17 Departments of Paraguay entered the stadium carried by great figures of Guarani sports, arriving at the end at the hands of one of the most renowned athletes of the country, the former tennis player and former Minister of Sports, Victor Manuel Pecci. The latter, with a high quality racket, lit the cauldron that will illuminate the Games during the 15 days of competition.

The Asunción 2022 cauldron was designed by the artist Fernando Javier Feliciangeli, better known as Ambere, the name of the work is South American Memory, the inspiration was the largest fresh water reserve on the planet, the GUARANI AQUIFER, which represents 26% of the usable water.

South Americans have the responsibility to be worthy custodians of this vital resource, and in order to make this situation visible, the ASU2022 cauldron adopts Water as its theme, representing the South American rain.

Using the natural parabola that describes a jet when falling, as the generator of the volume and arranging them in a direction that suggests a clockwise rotation (as happens in the southern hemisphere and known as Coriolis effect) alludes to the South American rain, which falls on us in this way.
THE SOUTH AMERICAN FIRE rests on that SOUTH AMERICAN RAIN reminding us that it is water that sustains life.

With the lighting of the cauldron, the international Argentinean artist Agostina Stoessel, the popular Tini, unleashed the joy of a stadium full of art and sport lovers, predicting the successful development of the first South American Games organized by Paraguay.

So we lived a magical night, some from the stands and others from the comfort of their homes, with live television and streaming.

And no, this was not just another night, it was the great gala night of the XII South American Games Asuncion 2022. Opening of the XII South American Games Asuncion 2022: An unforgettable evening
