Itaipu and Salto del Guairá receive the South American Fire of the ASU2022 Games

A few days after the start of the XII South American Game Assumption 2022, the South American Fire continues its journey through several cities of the country.

The ancestral symbol will illuminate Paraguay in the great sporting event that will allow the integration of athletes and an embrace of cultures, and that is why the flame is a symbolism for the expression that unites Paraguay with the traditions of other peoples of this continent. Salto del Guairá of the department of Canindeyú received the flame in an atmosphere full of emotion by athletes and residents of the city. Located 407 km from the capital of Asunción, the city of Salto del Guaira, is named after the great famous waterfalls, today flooded, called Saltos del Guaira.

With a total population of 35,493 inhabitants, 30 neighbourhoods, of which 19 in urban areas and 11 in rural areas. The main activity of the citizens is agriculture, with the cultivation of soybeans. Likewise, the Olympic torch was lit in the Itaipu Binacional dam, in the city of Hernandarias of the Alto Paraná Department. The Itaipu hydroelectric dam, currently considered as the hydroelectric plant with the highest production of electrical energy in the world. It is a binational dam of Paraguay and Brazil, located between Foz do Iguazú, Brazilian area and the city of Hernandarias on the Paraguayan side.
