On Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., the Organizing Committee of the XII South American Games Asunción 2022, chaired by the Minister Secretary of Sports Diego Galeano Harrison, made the official presentation of the department of Itapúa as the sub-venue of this historic event that our country will experience from 1 to October 15.

The sports disciplines of Sailing, Water Skiing, Open Water Swimming, Triathlon and MTB Cycling (Mountain Bike), five in total, will take place in the cities of Encarnación and San José del Paraná.

In the presentation ceremony, Galeano Harrison confirmed the alliance of the ASU2022 Games with the municipalities of Encarnación and San Juan del Paraná and provided details of the work day held on the date by the department of Itapúa.

The presentation was made through a press conference that was accompanied by the mayor of the city of Encarnación, Luis Yd; the president of the Municipal Board of Encarnación, Juan Lichi; and the General Coordinator of the ASU2022 Games, Ricardo Deggeller

Located just over 370 km from Asunción, the cities of Encarnación and San Juan del Paraná will officially become sub-venues of the XII Asunción 2022 South American Games, receiving, with their sports infrastructures and tourist attractions, athletes from all over South America.

"From the National Sports Secretariat and as head of the Local Organizing Committee, I consider the importance of having suitable spaces for the optimal development of competitions. Likewise, given the great potential, both in sports and tourist infrastructure, that Itapúa has, We have decided to form an alliance to formalize the integration of Encarnación and San Juan del Paraná among the sub-venues of the ASU2022 Games," said Galeano Harrison.

"It is exciting to see the predisposition they give us here and the desire they also have to make this party the best in our history. Here we are all making efforts so that Paraguay stands out before the continent and the world," he added.

For his part, the community chief from Encarnación assured that this is a unique opportunity for Encarnación and all of Paraguay to show the world how prepared the country is to host international events.

"We are going to support the minister and his team in everything necessary, and we are going to make this city that we call 'The Pearl of Paraguay' grow sportingly and position itself as the venue for major sporting events,"said Yd.

The Organizing Committee of ASU2022, in a joint effort with the municipal authorities, will install a work office in Itapúa, where the competitions of 5 disciplines that make up the Sports Program of the Games will be fulfilled.

The integration of Itapúa as a sub-headquarters also implies an exponential increase in the tourist movement that will translate into a large economic injection for the city and the department.
