Fencing

June 10, 2021
It is a sport discipline of a combat model that puts two athletes that face each other with swords, sometimes with the characteristics of a foil, saber or epee, and have the objective of touching the adversary with it and avoid that the rival, in the same way, touches them.

The athletes use all their capacity to attack, fence, and manipulate a sword to protect from any offensive actions from the rival in the competition.

Fencing is trained in a 2 meter wide and 14 meter long lane called “piste”. In the competition there are three types of weapons: foil, epee and saber. When using a foil, points are granted by touching the rival with the tip of the blade and the point is only valid in the torso area.

The epee is heavier than the foil and when using this weapon in combat the objective is to touch the rival in any part of the body, and simultaneous touches are allowed between fencers. It must be noted that touches are only allowed with the tip of the blade and not the sides of it.

In the case of the saber, contact can be done in any part of the body from the waist up to the head except the hands. Contact can be made with the tip of the blade and the sides of it. Unlike foil, non valid touches don't stop the action.

The attractiveness of fencing resides in the tactical exchange of two athletes with precise movement and duels that move rapidly. The splendid handle of sword at short distance by part of the athletes in an exciting moment of any combat. The dynamic combats of fencers, lightened with one light while surrounded by a dark atmosphere fill the place with action and sport intensity.
