Track Cycling is a discipline that has as the main objective the contest of speed, resistance and teamwork.
This competition is developed in a closed and conditioned space called velodrome, it has a measurement of 250 meters in oval and is run with bikes that have no brakes nor gear shifts. These bikes have fixed gears, so the wheel stops at the same time as the pedals or when force is applied against the pedal.
Considering speed being in the nature of this sport and overcoming 80km/h, cyclists use full suits on their bodies with aerodynamic helmets to reduce air resistance and achieve higher speed easier.
Track cycling events
Each discipline is based on a different work combination of teamwork, technique, speed and strategy.
The cycling events in track can be categorized as resistance or sprint. The sprint events include sprint by teams, sprint individual and keirin; and resistance are team chase, omnium and madison.
